Not the best forecast for the day, but I was keen to introduce the crispy clean demo BGD Cure to the Scottish Borders weather, so headed for Witchie. It wasn't looking particularly promising on the drive over as the top of the antenna at Selkirk was in cloud!
Arrived just in time to stop a sleepy Dave H from driving off, and the two of us set up under a leaden gray sky with low clouds.
Woke up this morning and Tweed valley had similar conditions to Sunday 6th, so decided to squeeze in a wee explore of Lee Pen before heading back to Edin. Actually, it was Lee Burn Head, the big slope opposite Cadrona - 50m lower than Lee Pen but west facing. This has been on my list for quite some time now, and got a nice short soaring flight and a fly down, although turned out to be more complicated than I expected.
A hint of a flyable forecast. On a weekend. It must be spring?
Light wind. South going East so a basic plan was formed to take a look at Blackknowe head Sunday morning.
11pm sat night rain. And a wee tad more overnight.
7am Sunday morning the rain had stopped and there was a hint of things clearing up in Lockerbie. By 9 we had blue sky with some cumulus so in an attempt (maybe not too hopeful) I jumped in the car and headed up to Tommy's place.

The morning started off with Richard Bungay giving us an overview of what we should be checking when we are repacking our reserves. He talked about the whole reserve system and how a perfectly packed reserve is no good if it's not properly attached to the harness.
Its Saturday and light winds so for ease we go to Witchyknowe. I arrive just after 12am with an unpacked glider, I dont hang about and set off with a stuffed glider and loose harness over to the S/W bowl.
not as much South in the wind as I had expected but its good enough. Robs beat me to the launch but I beat him into the air. Feels good so the fun begins. Easy to stay up, great for wagga and top landings.
